At present
105 children between 2-17 years old are supported by the Foundation.
The children live in Paraíso and Bella Flor neighborhoods,
in a marginalized urban area of Bogotá (Colombia).
The children supported by the Foundation have precarious living conditions.
The most common problems faced by these children are low education rates,
access barriers to health care services, malnutrition, domestic violence,
forced displacement, abandonment, among others. Moreover, because of
their economic and social conditions, the children often spend a lot
of time in the streets or locked at home while their parents are at work.
Some of these children belong to forcedly displaced families. In average
their families are comprised of 6 members. 23% of the households are
led by women.
Just about 49% of the children’s mothers are employed, 57% of them
have sporadic jobs as housekeepers (43%) and others are temporarily employed
in community-level organizations, cleanliness companies and restaurants,
among other activities.
71% of the children’s fathers affirm to be employed, although 36%
of them have sporadic jobs working as building workers, street vendors,
or other non-skilled jobs.
